This was very educational. Although emotionally felt, it was interesting to hear about the life of the only confederate president. The home was beautiful and our UMD students were able to hear that it was built, along with most of the home furnishings, by a Black man.
I am so grateful that I have been given the opportunity to join this trip and embark on not only an educational but personal tour. Yesterday’s field trip to the Beauvoir site was simply amazing. To see US history and learn how this property came to exist. I have a lot to be thankful for and know my successes could not be possible without the struggle of those that came before me. We have only scratched the surface. There is so much more to come and more learning to take place.
